LEON MOORE
I started boxing at ten-years-old in Guyana. I can remember my first fight at just 63 pounds - I won by stoppage. That’s where it all began and when I knew I had the potential to pursue boxing as a career. I went on to compete and fought on a regular basis. I built my confidence up with every fight. After my first loss at fifteen, I wouldn’t lose again until I was nineteen. I started traveling internationally to fight at eighteen and won the World Junior Title. I entered the Olympics qualifications in 2000 and was number 1 in the country while preparing for the Olympics. I got sick while on the team so was unable to represent during the games. After that, I turned pro. I fought my way to the number 3 spot in the world. I had 35 fights before I retired in 2016.
After retiring from boxing, I volunteered my time with New York Care, as well as various other organizations catering to the well-being of youth. I believe in giving back to those who need it. I grew up in a poor home in a poor neighborhood where 85% of the kids in the neighborhood either go to prison or they get shot. I came from nothing and I believe that I can help others in similar positions with boxing.
I now train at Gleason's Gym in Brooklyn. I specialize in traditional boxing techniques including speed, agility and power. I work with both kids and adults.
